The Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB) is the public administration of the metropolitan area of Barcelona, which occupies 636 km² and encompasses 36 municipalities with more than 3.2 million inhabitants. The metropolitan area is a territorial, social, demographic, economic and cultural entity formed during the last century as a product of the growth and connection of urban systems around the city of Barcelona. This is the largest metropolitan conurbation in the western Mediterranean, which generates half of the GDP in Catalonia. The new public metropolitan administration replaces the three entities existing until 2011: Union of Municipalities of the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona, Environmental Agency and Transport Metropolitan Agency. UN-Habitat is the United Nations programme working towards a better urban future. Its mission is to promote socially and environmentally sustainable human settlements development and the achievement of adequate shelter for all.
In October 2016, at the UN Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development – Habitat III – member states signed the New Urban Agenda. This is an action-oriented document which sets global standards of achievement in sustainable urban development, rethinking the way we build, manage, and live in cities. Through drawing together cooperation with committed partners, relevant stakeholders, and urban actors, including at all levels of government as well as the private sector, UN-Habitat is applying its technical expertise, normative work and capacity development to implement the New Urban Agenda and Sustainable Development Goal 11 – to make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.
The City Resilience Global Programme is UN-Habitat’s technical partners for urban resilience. The programme helps cities increase their resilience by diagnosing the state of their urban system, driving actions, sharing and building knowledge for policy making.
The World Bank Group has set two goals for the world to achieve by 2030:

CIDEU is the network of iberoamerican cities that shares and promotes the culture of urban strategic thinking. Created in 1993, it has 150 members from 21 countries: 122 cities and 28 collaborating entities. The city of Zaragoza, Spain, currently holds the presidency of CIDEU, and the vice-presidency is held by the city of Bogotá, Colombia. CIDEU’s mission is to accompany iberoamerican local governments in the application of the culture of urban strategic thinking, to the design and management of projects aligned to a strategy, to achieve sustainable and inclusive cities.
The Covenant of Mayors is the world’s largest movement for local climate and energy actions. In Europe, over 10,000 cities and towns are joining forces to secure a better future for their citizens. Under the renewed ambition of the European Covenant of Mayors, signatories commit to reaching climate neutrality by 2050, to increasing their emission reduction targets, implementing adaptation to climate change measures and alleviating energy poverty thanks to a just transition. They also commit to engaging their citizens, businesses and local stakeholders in the transition, thus contributing to the European Climate Pact.
The Carbon Neutral Cities Alliance (CNCA) is a collaboration of leading global cities working to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 80-100% by 2050 or sooner — the most aggressive GHG reduction targets undertaken anywhere by any city. Achieving carbon neutrality will require radical, transformative changes to core city systems. CNCA enables its member cities to advance their own transformational efforts, collaborate with each other and key partners to overcome barriers, foster innovative approaches, and share lessons with other cities ready to pursue similar goals.
France urbaine is the only association of city mayors and urban centers presidents in France. Its 106 members, of all political tendencies and representing some 1,300 cities, gather more than half of France’s population. France urbaine aims to promote the urban fact among public authorities and all citizens. The association takes its part in the structuring of the urban world and the attractivity of our country, within the framework of a permanent dialogue with the French Government. France urbaine is organised into colleges representing the various administrative forms of France’s urban diversity.
Founded in 1989, the Brazilian Association of Mayors (FNP) is the only municipal entity directed exclusively by mayors in exercise of their mandates, composed by 400 municipalities with more than 80,000 inhabitants. This number covers 100% of the capitals, 60% of the inhabitants and 75% of the country’s GDP.
Among the activities of FNP is the organization of national and international events. We highlight the Municipal Meeting with Sustainable Development (EMDS), the largest local sustainable development event held in Latin America. Promoted by FNP in partnership with national and international organizations, it welcomes about 10000 people (+500 mayors) each edition. The 5th EMDS will happen in Brasilia – 26th to 28th August 2019.
Mercociudades is the main Network of the South American local governments and an outstanding reference in the integration processes. It is conformed by 361 cities in 10 countries, where over 120 million people live. Mercociudades was founded in 1995 on the initiative of the main mayors of the region with the aim of promoting regional integration and the creation of an institutional scope for cities within the Mercosur. Mercociudades works to strengthen the exchange and horizontal cooperation between the cities of the region, inspired by a different kind of regional integration, respectful of diversity and with a vocation to build borderless participatory citizenship.
The OSGP Alliance is the global non-profit association dedicated to promoting the adoption of the Open Smart Grid Protocol (OSGP) and infrastructure for smart grid applications towards a future proof modern smart grid. With a key focus on security, smart metering, smart grid, grid analytics, distribution network management and smart cities our members, including utilities, hardware manufacturers, service providers and system integrators, all share a common goal and vision: promoting open standards for energy demand side management, smart grid and smart metering systems.

Together with our international member cities and partner organisations, and based on our core values – openness, agility, and cooperation – OASC is building the foundation for a global market where digital services can scale sustainably.

Resilient Cities Network (R-Cities) is the world’s leading urban resilience network. Present in more than 100 cities, 40 countries, and 6 continents, R-Cities is a global city-led nonprofit organization that brings together knowledge, practice, partnerships, and funding to empower cities to build a safe, equitable, and sustainable future for all. The World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization (WeGO) is an international association of city and other local governments, smart tech solutions providers, and national and regional institutions committed to the transformation of cities into smart sustainable cities.
WeGO’s Secretariat is based in Seoul, Korea, with regional offices in East Asia (Chengdu, China), Eurasia (Ulyanovsk, Russia), the Mediterranean (Beyoğlu, Turkey), and Latin America (Mexico City, Mexico).

ACR+ is an international network of cities and regions sharing the aim of promoting a sustainable resource management and accelerating the transition towards a circular economy on their territories and beyond. Circular economy calling for cooperation between all actors, ACR+ is open to other players in the field of material resource management (NGOs, academic institutions, consultancy or private organisations). For already 25 years, ACR+ facilitates the exchange of experiences between members while also sharing technical and policy information. To strengthen the knowledge and capacities of the network and push forward innovation in the field of material resource management, ACR+ is also involved in several projects at European level and in the Mediterranean region, in cooperation with its members.

The Business Association of L’Hospitalet and Baix Llobregat (AEBALL in Spanish) is a non-profit business organization that was born in 1984 in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, Barcelona. It is the business association for representation, management, defense, coordination and promotion of the professional interests of companies that carry out general economic activities in their different sectors: industrial, commercial and services, within the territorial scope of L’Hospitalet and Baix Llobregat, a territory in constant economic and social growth.
Its operation is autonomous and independent of any entity, organization, public administration, political party… And it is governed by democratically elected governing bodies every four years, and by a collaborating staff who executes the established guidelines. AEBALL is non-profit making and is made up of freely associated companies and entities that may be individual, collective (unions or lower-level employer entities) or collaborators.
AEDIVE is the Iberian EV cluster, an association with more than 150 companies which gathers the industrial, technological and services value chain of e-Mobility in Spain and Portugal. AEDIVE is the representative of AVERE, the European EV Association, for the Iberian market and is also a member of Platform for Electromobility and the ICT Interoperability Innovation Group eMI3. The leading German Broadband Association (BREKO) represents more than 190 fixed broadband network operators in Germany. BREKO members are responsible for the roll-out of future-proof fibre infrastructure and currently account for more than 80% of the competitive FTTB/H deployment. With annual investments of approximately €2.5 billion in 2018, BREKO plays a significant role in the effort to create an inclusive European gigabit society that builds on fast fibre networks to all buildings. This drive has allowed BREKO businesses to establish 5 million FTTB/H connection throughout Germany.

The Connected Vehicle Trade Association (CVTA) is a non-profit business league established to facilitate the interaction, and advance the interests, of the entities involved in the vehicle communication environment. The Connected Vehicle Trade Association enables the collaboration of companies, organizations, and governmental bodies engaged in developing bidirectional vehicle communications. Membership is open to any corporation, public entities, standards and specification organizations and educational institutions.
Bringing together the most prominent independent R&D providers in the automotive sector throughout Europe, EARPA is the association of automotive R&D organisations since 2002. European Lighting Cluster Alliance – ELCA is the international association aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of the European lighting sector (in particular SMEs) in the smart and connected lighting and deployment of energy-efficient and human-centric lighting solutions in smart home, smart building and smart cities framework. Eurotowns was established in 1991 as the Europe-wide network for towns and cities with populations between 50.000 and 250.000. Towns and cities of this size play a significant part in the economic and social life of Europe. The Eurotowns network aims to ensure that this fact is properly reflected in the development of European legislation and promotes the interests of medium-sized cities at European level. There are currently 19 cities in membership of Eurotowns. The network supports medium-sized cities in Europe to strengthen their role as attractive, inclusive and sustainable places. The International Port Community Systems Association (IPCSA) was originally founded in 2011 as the European Port Community Systems Association, by six European-based PCS operators. It was relaunched in 2014 as an international association, reflecting its growing membership outside Europe. Membership includes Sea and Air Port Community System Operators, Sea and Air Port Authorities and Single Window Operators. Today, IPCSA’s members operate across the world, exchanging electronic information at more than 500 sea and air ports, rail and inland waterways, and border crossing points. This equates to more than 500 million TEU and 10 billion tonnes of world trade a year, a reach of over 1 million users, and the exchange of more than 30 million messages per day in support of efficient Sea and Air Ports.

Railgrup has become a benchmark cluster not only in the railway ecosystem but in the transport sector in general. Through innovation, technological excellence, cross-sectoral knowledge, and the development of joint projects, we help our members establishing key points and improving their business competitiveness. Railgrup has different workgroups and currently gathers more than 105 members including public operators, engineering firms, start-ups, sensor-mobility systems, OEMs, cybersecurity, and rail infrastructure suppliers. Through different workshops, the aim is to spread knowledge, raise awareness, explore challenges ahead in a railway mobility context.

Smartech, which has about 135 members, is the Spanish cluster of companies and organizations from the entire value chain of smart homes, buildings and cities.
